Athens, February 4th, 2020 – The Hellenic Aquaculture Producers’ Organization (HAPO) in cooperation with the Greek Ministry of Rural Development and Food, organized a conference that took place within the framework of this year’s AGROTICA, the International Fair for Agricultural Machinery, Equipment and Supplies. The conference was entitled “Greek Aquaculture, one of the main pillars of development”.
Presentations delivered during the conference, on Saturday, February 1st, 2020, covered all the main issues that concern the aquaculture industry such as environmental matters, fish well-being, sustainability, the value of the industry to Greek society and institutional reforms. Among those to deliver presentations were the Deputy Minister for Rural Development, responsible for the Fisheries Policy portfolio, Ms. Fotini Arampatzi, the Chairman of HAPO, Mr. Apostolos Touralias and Messrs. Yiannis Pelekanakis, General Manager, Federation of Greek Mariculture, Leonidas Papacharissis, Coordinator of HAPO’s Scientific Committee, Dr.Manolis Tsapakis, Research Director, Institute for Oceanography, Hellenic Center for Marine Research and Ms. Marina Petrou, General Manager, Directorate General of Fisheries, Ministry of Rural Development and Food.
In his presentation, HAPO Chairman Apostolos Touralias stated: “The State’s active support to the industry’s efforts is clearly expressed through our honest, continuous and effective cooperation with the Ministry of Rural Development and Food. Both the political and administrative leadership of the Ministry realize the industry’s potential, understand the issues we are faced with and effectively support Greek aquaculture”.
