HAPO in support of Igoumenitsa’s Social Market

September 2020

The Hellenic Aquaculture Producers Organization (HAPO) actively supports the mission set forth by the Social Market at the Igoumenitsa Municipality, offering fresh aquaculture fish and boosting the local community in Thesprotia, where several HAPO Members run their fish farming units.

Fresh aquaculture fish with the FISH FROM GREECE certification have a high nutritional value, are rich in Omega-3 fats and contribute to a healthy and balanced diet. HAPO’s first delivery to 498 beneficiaries took place on September 15. The event was organized by Katerina Paschou, the Social Market’s manager, and was attended by HAPO Vice President Ioannis Hekimoglou, Ilias Lolis, Deputy Mayor of Social Policy and Welfare, and HAPO members with fish farming activity in Thesprotia.

Igoumenitsa’s Social Market frequently delivers personal hygiene products, clothing, footwear, food, toys, etc., and substantially aids residents who face economic hardships, live below the poverty line, and are unable to purchase materials to cover their day-to-day needs.

HAPO, whose Members operate in 11 out of 13 Regional Prefectures in Greece, holds a dynamic role in enhancing the prosperity of several areas in Greece with a series of socially responsible actions that focus on increasing the quality of living for people in need. At the same time, Greek aquaculture creates employment opportunities even in remote areas in Greece, employing 12,000 people, both directly and indirectly.
