Monday 17 & Tuesday 18 November- A particularly honorable invitation led Ismini Bogdanou, Communications Director of the Hellenic Aquaculture Producers Organization (HAPO), to Riyadh, where she actively participated in a workshop co-organized by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture of Saudi Arabia and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
During this multi-themed workshop, the “Fish from Greece” Certification Protocol was presented, representing the quality seal of the fresh Greek farmed fish produced by HAPO’s 22 Members. The presentation attracted great interest from participants, including ministry representatives, senior officials from international certification bodies, and aquaculture experts from Europe and Saudi Arabia.
The Greek presence continued with the inauguration of a major fish festival organized by the LULU chain. The experience concluded—according to Arab tradition—with authentic hospitality and flavors. The ceremonial meal, cooked underground, featured not only lamb and rice but also locally farmed fish such as gilthead seabream, barramundi, yellowtail, and salmon, offering a unique taste of the local cuisine.
HAPO’s participation in international workshops and conferences highlights its institutional role and substantial contribution to modern, responsible, and sustainable Greek aquaculture. At the same time, it strengthens the sector’s international outreach and showcases the Organization’s collaborations with key institutions and universities in Greece and abroad.
With a consistent investment in research, development, and global presence, HAPO continues to promote the value of Greek farmed fish and the work of its Members on an international level.
