Monday, October 14 & Tuesday, October 15 – Spain is the second-largest market for fresh Greek farmed fish, accounting for about 28% of Greece’s production in 2023. In total, 64,400 tons of sea bream and sea bass were imported into Spain in 2023, with 52% (33,520 tons) coming from Greece. In this context, and with the goal of further boosting the consumption of fresh Greek farmed fish under the Fish from Greece brand, the Hellenic Aquaculture Producers Organization (HAPO), in collaboration with the Economic and Commercial Affairs Office of the Greek Embassy and the Spanish-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce, organized two special gastronomic events at the VelascoAbellà restaurant in Madrid, run by the renowned two-Michelin-star Spanish chef Óscar Velasco. On Monday, October 14, the event began with a cooking demo featuring a Fish from Greece sea bass recipe for selected Spanish chefs, followed by a meal. On Tuesday, October 15, representatives from the specialized food and general media, bloggers, and food influencers attended. HAPO offered fresh Greek farmed fish, including sea bass, sea bream, pagrus, and amberjack. Their fine flavors were paired with exquisite Greek wines in a “Fish & Wine Pairing” experience, featuring a well-known oenologist.Representing HAPO at the two-day promotional event was Ms. Ismini Bogdanou, Director of Communications and Public Relations, who gave a speech highlighting the Greek aquaculture industry’s outward-looking nature and the high-quality, healthy characteristics of Greek farmed fish. The Spanish-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce was represented by President Mr. Andreas Pappas and Vice President Mr. Jacobo Beltrán. Also actively participating were Mr. Pantelis Gasios, Senior Advisor, and Ms. Christina Oikonomou, Third Secretary, from the Economic and Commercial Affairs Office of the Greek Embassy. The event was honored by the presence and greeting from the Greek Ambassador to Spain, Mr. Elias Fotopoulos.
