The Hellenic Aquaculture Producers Organization (HAPO) was honored to participate in the 10th Anniversary Celebration of the Aquaculture Advisory Council (AAC) and the Market Advisory Council (MAC) in Brussels.
The event brought together friends, colleagues, and representatives of numerous organizations with whom HAPO has collaborated since the establishment of both Advisory Councils. Since their inception, HAPO has actively contributed to shaping European policies affecting aquaculture and seafood markets through its continuous engagement in their work.
Over the past decade, the Aquaculture Advisory Council (AAC) and the Market Advisory Council (MAC) have clearly demonstrated the value of constructive dialogue by bringing together diverse stakeholders, bridging differing perspectives, and building consensus. In an increasingly complex and demanding policy environment, the ability to find common ground cannot be taken for granted—it is a significant strength that both Advisory Councils have consistently fostered and reinforced throughout their ten years of operation.
Looking ahead, there is growing optimism that the barriers identified in the recent evaluation of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP)—and highlighted by European Commissioner Costas Kadis—can be addressed, enabling the European Union to better align with the growth trajectory of the global aquaculture sector, as illustrated by FAO Assistant Director-General Manuel Barange.
HAPO remains firmly committed to investing in this constructive dialogue and will continue to contribute actively to the development of effective European strategies built on clear objectives, measurable outcomes, and a shared vision for the future of sustainable aquaculture.
