Attalia, 4-8 February
The participation of Katerina Lytra, Scientific Director of the Hellenic Aquaculture Producers Organization (HAPO), in the 1st Aquaculture Türkiye 2026 Conference in Antalya, Türkiye, was far more than a ceremonial presence. It represented a strategically important initiative for several reasons.
Türkiye is one of Greece’s main competitors in the production of Mediterranean aquaculture species, particularly seabream and seabass. Having a Greek representative present provided HAPO with first-hand insight into the latest developments, technologies, and strategies being adopted by one of the industry’s key competitors.
Moreover, HAPO’s participation ensured that the Greek aquaculture sector had a voice at this important international forum, enabling it to present its perspectives and, indirectly, contribute to shaping discussions and future market directions.
The conference also provided valuable networking opportunities, bringing together producers, researchers, and industry stakeholders from different countries. These interactions create opportunities for future collaborations, knowledge exchange, and potential business partnerships.
Finally, HAPO’s presence carried important symbolic value. Participating in such a significant conference hosted by a competing aquaculture-producing country demonstrated that Greece remains an active, confident, and influential player in the Mediterranean aquaculture sector.
In short, this visit was was a strategic initiative to monitor industry developments, strengthen international engagement, and reinforce the position of the Greek aquaculture
sector on the global stage.
