Brussels, Monday 8 – Tuesday 9 June The Hellenic Aquaculture Producers Organization (HAPO) participated in the meetings of the Aquaculture Advisory Council (AAC) and the Market Advisory Council (MAC).
The consecutive sessions addressed key issues affecting the European aquaculture sector, including aquatic animal health and welfare and the latest policy developments within the Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE). Discussions also covered the evolving regulatory landscape and the strategic priorities shaping the future of European aquaculture.
At the heart of the discussions were the Vision 2040 for European Aquaculture and the ongoing evaluation of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP).
The European Commission’s evaluation has now reached the diagnostic phase, confirming many of the concerns that the aquaculture sector has consistently raised over the years. The industry’s priority now is to move from diagnosis to action through meaningful legislative reforms that will unlock the growth potential of European aquaculture while strengthening the resilience and food security of Europe’s food system.
HAPO continues to actively contribute to the European policy dialogue, advocating for a modern, competitive, and sustainable aquaculture sector supported by a clear and enabling regulatory framework.
