HAPO present at the General Assembly of the Federation of European Aquaculture Producers(FEAP)

Limassol, Cyprus , Thursday 21 – Friday 22 May​

The Hellenic Aquaculture Producers Organization (HAPO) participated in the General Assembly of the Federation of European Aquaculture Producers (FEAP), held in Cyprus.​

During an intensive and highly productive program of meetings, participants discussed the future of sustainable aquaculture, fish health and welfare, climate and environmental challenges, innovation, communication, and the strategic development of the sector.​

Key topics addressed included:​

• Recent developments in animal health and welfare, innovation, and biosecurity practices implemented to prevent disease outbreaks.​
• Environmental and climate change issues, with discussions focusing on the definition and development of restorative aquaculture, ecosystem services, the impacts of predator management policies (including cormorants), as well as the practical implications of European water and marine environment policies for producers.​
• Developments in European legislation, with particular emphasis on the challenges arising from the new Multiannual Financial Framework 2028–2034, as well as the evaluation of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) published by DG MARE.​
• The presentation of the WWF study “Harnessing the Waters” by Sergio Nates, Senior Director, which attracted particular interest and highlighted key perspectives for the future of sustainable aquatic food production.​

Leadership Transition at FEAP​

Ms. Lara Barazi Geroulanou, through her four-year tenure as President of FEAP, represented European aquaculture with consistency, dedication, and deep sectoral expertise at all levels. Her experience and contribution have been invaluable and will continue to serve as an important asset for the sector.​

HAPO extends its appreciation for her significant contribution and remains committed to supporting the new FEAP President, Ms. Anna Pyć, fostering close and constructive cooperation for the benefit of European aquaculture.​
