Agrinio, Friday 29 – Saturday 30 May The Hellenic Aquaculture Producers Organization (HAPO) supported the conference “HERITAGES 2 – Tourism, Culture and Sustainable Development in Aetolia-Acarnania and Western Greece” as sponsor. The conference was organized by the Hotel Association of Aetolia-Acarnania on 29–30 May 2026, under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism and with the kind support of HAPO.
“What is the productive model we want for Aetoloakarnania?”
“Is supporting primary production the key objective?”
“25,000 tones of fish are produced in Western Greece, supporting employment and food security.”
“The tools for regional progress exist, but they require commitment and synergies.”
These were the key themes highlighted by Mr. Konstantinos Bokas, Treasurer of the Hellenic Aquaculture Producers Organization (HAPO), during his contribution to the session “Primary Sector, Exports and Added Value.”
In his intervention, Mr. Bokas highlighted the significant opportunities for connecting agricultural production with tourism and gastronomy, as well as the potential to strengthen the outward orientation and international presence of local products, including olive oil and fish.
The conference brought together prominent representatives from the tourism sector, local government, cultural management, and the academic community, with the aim of showcasing the region’s cultural heritage and exploring its connection with contemporary development opportunities.
The participation of leading government officials added particular importance to the proceedings, demonstrating the growing strategic significance attributed to the development prospects of Aitoloakarnania and Western Greece.
Through its support of initiatives that promote regional development, sustainability, and the connection between production, tourism, and gastronomy, HAPO continues to highlight the important contribution of Greek aquaculture to local economies, employment, and food security.
