Hellenic Aquaculture at the 9th International Conference “Our Ocean”

With its multifaceted presence at the 9th International Conference “Our Ocean,” the Hellenic Aquaculture Producers Organization (HAPO) is creating a positive climate for the development of Greek aquaculture and the industry’s initiatives in protecting the transparent Greek sea and its unique biodiversity.

During her intervention in the panel “Food Security: The role of sustainable aquatic/Blue Foods in the green transition” organized by the European Bureau for Conservation and Development, Ismini Bogdanou, Director of Communication and Public Relations, stated: “Our biggest challenge in relation to climate change is adapting aquaculture operations to this new reality, in order to achieve an effective balance between environmental protection and industry growth.” Yiannis Pelekanakis, Director of European Programs, in the panel “Sustainable small-scale aquaculture in the SE Mediterranean” organized by the organization “New Agriculture, New Generation,” among other things, referred to the stagnation of the industry’s production at the European level and the EU market’s dependence on imported products, the role of small-scale aquaculture in the social cohesion of coastal areas, and the ongoing process of establishing environmental sustainability indicators at the European level.

More than 500 government representatives, Commission officials, journalists, and representatives of Greek and international organizations, including official delegates, tasted Greek fresh fish from Fish from Greece and watched two documentaries by HAPO highlighting the significant role of Greek aquaculture in the economy, local community development, nutrition, and employment.
