The spatial planning obstacles and institutional delays that have hindered the development of the aquaculture sector over the past 15 years were the main topics discussed during the live interview between Maria Smilidou of Naftemporiki TV and Apostolos Touralias, President of the Hellenic Aquaculture Producers Organization (HAPO).
Once again, Mr. Touralias strongly highlighted the prolonged delay in implementing the aquaculture spatial planning framework, stating:
“The state or the government appears to have become trapped by certain misconceptions surrounding aquaculture activity, by some local vested interests, and by short-term political considerations…”
The discussion focused on the need for a clear and stable institutional framework that will allow the Greek aquaculture sector to develop sustainably, strengthen its competitiveness, and continue contributing to the national economy.
