The annual General Assembly of HAPO

Wednesday, March 27th – The Annual Ordinary General Assembly of the Hellenic Aquaculture Producers Organization (HAPO) took place on March 27th at the Holiday Inn, with the participation of 22 Members and executives of the companies, during which:

the financial report and achievements of 2023 were presented the financial budget for 2024, approaching €3.0 million, was unanimously approved updates on European and institutional matters were provided, with a focus on legislative developments for further improvement of fish health and welfare, as well as the establishment of indicators for more effective monitoring of the industry’s environmental sustainability results of studies conducted by HAPO in 2023 were presented, outlining requirements for the disclosure of industry data on environmental and social impacts, as well as fish welfare, and the scientific program to be implemented in 2024 in collaboration with HAPO’s Technical Committee, Universities, and Research Centers of the country. communication program and actions were decided upon to achieve maximum social recognition of the industry and increase the consumption of Greek fresh farmed fish under the collective name Fish from Greece.

At an institutional level, HAPO is committed to taking all necessary actions and measures required to definitively combat distortions and pathologies that negatively affect the development of the Greek aquaculture industry, such as the operation of units and packaging facilities without licenses, strict control of census forms, ensuring avoidance of Hellenizations of aquaculture products from third countries, and the significant hindrance to development related to pending Zones of Organized Aquaculture Development (ZOADs). In this context, meetings will be coordinated in the near future with the political leadership of the Ministry of Rural Development and Food.

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility program, HAPO donates to the “Center for Special Individuals ‘Hara'” the amount equivalent to the traditional Greek New Year’s pie (Vasilopita).
