Tuesday, July 23, 2024 – The Hellenic Aquaculture Producers Organization (HAPO), the main body for the development of Greek aquaculture, has become a member of the European Commission’s Markets Advisory Council (MAC), which includes associations of fishers, importers, processors, and aquaculture organizations. The MAC is one of the eleven advisory councils supporting the European Commission in shaping fisheries and aquaculture policy (nine for fisheries, one for aquaculture, and one for markets). Through its participation in the MAC, HAPO aims to further utilize the tools and services available from the Commission and to promote issues concerning the enhancement of its competitiveness, especially at the commercial level, and to address any shortcomings in the existing European legislation. The MAC discusses, among other things, issues related to the supply and demand of fishery products in the European Union, fisheries and trade agreements with third countries, legislative developments in European aquaculture policy, and topics related to the Common Organization of Markets for Fishery and Aquaculture Products, such as producer organizations, food labeling, competition with third countries, marketing standards, market intelligence, and funding from the European Maritime, Fisheries, and Aquaculture Fund. At the same time, HAPO is an active member of the Federation of European Aquaculture Producers (FEAP), the Aquaculture Advisory Council (AAC), and the European Aquaculture Society (EAS), demonstrating its dedication to developmental goals, its international orientation, and its outward-looking approach.
