The Role of Omega-3 Fatty Acids in Protecting Health

Athens, Monday 2 February

Do you know the facts about fresh Greek farmed fish? Are they safe? High quality? Nutritious? Do they offer real nutritional value, or are they inferior to wild-caught fish?

At a time when consumers are increasingly interested in the origin of their food and in maintaining a healthy, nutritious diet, there is still considerable misinformation and a lack of awareness regarding fresh Greek farmed fish and the production practices behind them.

The Hellenic Aquaculture Producers Organization (HAPO) participated in the special webinar “The Role of Omega-3 Fatty Acids in Protecting Health,” organized by the Lifelong Learning Centre of the Hellenic Nutrition Society (ELDE) for dietitians, nutritionists, and medical professionals. The webinar aimed to dispel common misconceptions about aquaculture and provide scientifically supported information on Fish from Greece, the fresh Greek farmed fish produced by HAPO members. It also addressed the key questions raised by professionals working in nutrition, dietetics, and healthcare.

The webinar was moderated by Maria Vagia (Logo Diatrofis / Hellenic Nutrition Society) and featured the following speakers:

  • Dr. Dimitris Grigorakis, Clinical Dietitian–Nutritionist, PhD, President of Logo Diatrofis and the Hellenic Nutrition Society (ELDE)
  • Ismini Bogdanou, Communications & Public Relations Director, HAPO
  • Maki Anasi, Hatchery Director, Philosofish, HAPO Member
  • Katerina Lytra, Scientific Director, HAPO
  • Dimitris Barkas, Fish Nutritionist, AVRAMAR, HAPO Member
  • Konstantinos Voutsadakis, Dietitian–Nutritionist
